A quieter mind starts with noticing what's already there.
Choicespan is a personal writing space on yoga as a tool for mental clarity — not as a fitness category, but as a practice that changes how you relate to your own thinking.
The topics this site returns to most
Breath as an anchor for attention
Pranayama patterns and how specific breathing ratios affect the nervous system's shift from reactive to receptive states.
Stillness without suppression
Seated and restorative postures that build tolerance for discomfort — not by pushing through, but by learning to stay present with it.
Conversations with practitioners
Interviews with specialists who work at the edge of yoga and cognitive science — read the interview series for a different perspective.
When practice stops working
Honest accounts of periods when consistency broke down — what that revealed, and what shifted when it resumed.
Finding what you came for
The site has three main areas. Each one has a clear scope — there is no overlap between them, and nothing is buried in a catch-all archive.
Start with the blog for the full range of writing. Go to the interview series when you want a practitioner's view rather than a personal one. The about page explains the perspective behind all of it.
What separates this from other yoga writing
Most yoga content online is instructional or aspirational. This site is neither. The writing assumes you already practice — or that you are genuinely curious about what practice does to how you think, not just how you feel physically.
Named techniques, not vague principles
Posts reference specific sequences, breath ratios and durations — not generic advice about slowing down or being present.
Difficulty is written into the record
The writing does not skip over the weeks where nothing clicked. Inconsistency and resistance are treated as data, not failure.
One angle, followed carefully
Mental clarity is the only lens here. Physical benefits, lifestyle content and wellness trends are outside the scope entirely.
A few things this site holds to
Choicespan started in 2019 from a straightforward observation: most writing about yoga and the mind is either too abstract or too prescriptive. This site tries to sit between those two problems.
- Clarity of mind is worth writing about carefully, not quickly.
- Personal experience is a valid form of evidence when it is described precisely.
- Readers deserve writing that respects how long change actually takes.
The limits are deliberate
- No promises about outcomes — progress in mental practice is not linear and is not guaranteed.
- No medical or therapeutic claims — yoga here is not a substitute for clinical care.
- No beginner sequences or pose libraries — that content exists elsewhere and is done well elsewhere.
- No affiliate products, no sponsored content, no monetised recommendations.
